How to deal with "org.hyperic.sigar.SigarPermissionDeniedException"?

I tried the following in my code:

(on Windows)
Sigar sigar = new Sigar();
long[] l = sigar.getProcList();
ProcCpu pCpu = sigar.getProcCpu(l[0]); // Take the first process for an example

then it suggested:

org.hyperic.sigar.SigarPermissionDeniedException
                at org.hyperic.sigar.ProcTime.gather(Native Method)
     at org.hyperic.sigar.ProcCpu.getValues(ProcCpu.java:38)
     at org.hyperic.sigar.ProcCpu.get(ProcCpu.java:65)
     at org.hyperic.sigar.Sigar.getProcCpu(Sigar.java:433)

How can I resolve this?Thanks in advance for all your help

Announced sigar-amd64-winnt.dll missing in sourceforge's distributive

Hi!

In fact all the question is in subject. On SIGAR documentation you write that Windows amd64 is supported platform and sigar-amd64-winnt.dll library is included into binary distribution. But this file is missing in binary distribution downloaded from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=172552 and as a result CIGAR fails when running on 64-bit Windows via 64-bit JVM.

Does anybody know what the units would be for a plugin using Response Code?

<metric name="Deluxe"
            template="HTTP:hostname=labqa3.xxx.com,port=443,ssl=true:Response Code"
            follow="true"
            units="sec"
or

or
            units="units"/>

I'm trying to install Hyperic on a Linux box at the office to give a try but I am stuck the following step in the installion:

Now login to another terminal as root and execute this script:

    /home/agpmuat/temp/hyperic-hq-installer/installer-3.0.5/data/hqdb/tune-os.sh

I don't have root access. Is it possible to install Hyperic a non-root?

Hercules Release

The next release of Hyperic HQ is code named Hercules.  The development team has been focused on a number of significant enhancements to the open source platform, and we would like to share that roadmap with you.  Here are the key enhancements:

1. Reporting - this release will deliver the results of the initial integration effort between Hyperic and JasperSoft.  The open source JasperReports web application will be reskinned and bundled with Hyperic HQ.  Users will be access both Hyperic HQ and JasperReports webapps through the same JBoss container with both applications sharing the same database instance.  We will populate the JasperReports repository with some initial reports around availability and alert incidents.  However, we would like to involve both the Hyperic and JasperSoft communities in helping us and each other in developing more useful reports.  Look for announcements in both the HyperForge and JasperForge in the near future for Hyperic HQ Reporting.

2. Expanded Alert Features - there are a number of alerting features that we are working on.
    a. Alert Center - this is also an initial effort in creating an alert center so that all alerts in the system can be viewed in a flat hierarchy.
    b. Alert Resolution - alerts will have an additional free form text field that one can use to track how an alert was resolved.  The implication of the ability to track the resolution is that the previous resolution will be visible when a new alert fires and as part of the email notification.
    c. Indicator Metric Values - email notifications will now be sent with the last collected indicator metric values of the resource to facilitate instant problem diagnosis.

3. Performance and Scalability Enhancements - the development team has put efforts into redesigning our data schema, bulk insertion of data, database maintenance, SQL, Hibernate queries, application code, etc. to improve performance and scalability for deployments over 500 platforms.

4. MySQL - we have now added MySQL as a supported database backend, so that companies can leverage existing MySQL expertise.  Additionally, the MySQL plugin has been further enhanced for performance and functionality for management of MySQL.

5. Embedded Contextual Help - the application now allows a switch between displaying the context-sensitive help remotely from http://support.hyperic.com or locally deployed web pages.  These embedded contextual help pages can be further expanded and customized for the environment.

6. Localizable UI - both the UI and the help pages are now localizable.  We will soon organize HyperForge area dedicated to sharing of localized resources.

We are tentatively targeting beta builds starting next week and a GA release in August.

SIGAR crashes on Solaris 8

I posted this in the bugs forum as well.  Attached are the pstack and java stack traces.  This is happening on three different boxes, and it seems to be in the same place in the code.  The agent will run for a few hours, then it crashes and based on the pstack it looks to be a problem with SIGAR.  Any ideas?

setup default dashboard

Hi,

I would like to create a lot of users with the same dashboard not empty to start with.

Just would like to see if there is an easy way, or do I need to create a SQL query to do that.

If so, is anybody has an example or can you point me to the right tables to look at in the database.

Thanks

Custom Windows Event Logs

Hello,

I'm new to Hyperic and I'm trying to figure out how to monitor custom windows event logs.  We have many custom applications that write to their own specific event log in the windows event viewer.  Hyperic does not seem to be recognizing these extra event logs when I put the * in for specifying which event log to monitor.  Is it even possible to monitor custom event logs within Hyperic?

Thanks

Agent 3.2.1 with Bind 9.4 monitoring stalling

I have trouble with HQ agent 3.2.1 stalling after 48 hours on running on Solaris 10 zone with bind 9.4.2. I have several other agent installations also and they are working well, this one with bind monitoring is only agent stalling.

System is Solaris 10 x86, jdk 1.5 update 14.

I just installed jdk 1.6 update 5 and started agent with that, I'll report how things turn up.

WebSphere Application Server 6.1 issue (after applying fix pack)

Hyperic HQ Server and Agent are installed on Linux, both are at version 3.2.2. I use Sun j2sdk1.4.2_16 to run server and IBM java 1.5.0 to run the agent (for monitoring WebSphere). Before applying any fix patch to WebSphere 6.1 (version 6.1.0.0), Hyperic can monitor WebSphere 6.1 successfully, but after applying fix patch 15 (version 6.1.0.15), Hyperic can no longer be configured correctly, the error I got is as below.

Unexpected error running autodiscoverer for plugin: WebSphere Admin 6.1: ADMC0016E: The system cannot create a SOAP connector to connect to host localhost at port 8879.

Is there anyone who knows what this problem is? Please help!

Thanks,

Windows Event log alert truncate log message

I notice that the alert message reported by hyperic HQ does not contain the entire message as contained in the application Event log in windows. It seems like hyperic truncates the message after a certain length.

is there a way for hyperic to query the entire message or is this a bug ?

Plugin error: This service requires Java 1.5 or high

When I try to setup an INetAddress_Ping for one of my HQ Agents running on my computer, I get the error message "Invalid configuration: Plugin error: This service requires Java 1.5 or higher".  The computer the HQ Agent is running on has Java 1.6, and the server that is running Hyperic also has Java 1.6.

The computer to be monitored running the HQ Agent is a Windows XP Pro box.

The computer running the HypericHQ server is a CentOS box.

Any ideas?

Monitor Windows Scheduled tasks

Hi all

Is it possible to monitor an individual scheduled task on a windows Server/Workstation.  I have been unable to locate any info on how this may be possible within Hyperic.  As a reference I have found a product that does (ActiveXpertNetwork Monitor) but I would like to use only one monitoring tool.
My current thinking is to use the other product to monitor tasks and then send an alert to the HQ machine if a task fails.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

One of the agents was not returning data to the server. We removed that platform from the server. The server log gave us the following on deletion:

To me it looks like:

Something happened and the DB got corrupted. When we delete the platform it is not deleting properly and the bad data does not go away. When we do an autodiscovery, it reuses this bad data, which causes an invalid configuration, which is the reason why the metrics are not returned. But I could be wrong.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I do not know the reason when I re-set client, the default client agent ip is [default=192.168.0.129] but not my right 192.168.0.71,  even when I remove the client from DB and reset it again.

Root password on AMI

Hi,

I'm working through the RunHQinCloud.pdf for Hyperic AWS Developer. I'm at the point where I want to map the EBS to the instance and it requires "sudo" to execute some system calls. Unfortunately the docs don't indicate what the sudo password is. I've tried the INITPWORD password I set during instance creation but it doesn't appear to work (and I assume that's related to the hqadmin user if it's related at all). I've also tried several other passwords from the README file in /opt/hyperic and no password (just hitting enter) with no luck. Anyone know what password we should use at this step?

Thanks

Monitoring windows event logs

Hi All,

I am currently testing Hyperic, ultimatly I want to use it to monitor my customers WIndows servers as part of a managed services arrangement.  To do this I need to be able to monitor at minimum:

* Disk free space
* Windows event logs in the System and Application logs (alert for warnings, notify for errors)
* Available WIndows updates
* Anti-Virus update status (I think the best way to do this is via WMI to the Windows Security Centre).

I have most of the above working (I havent started on the WMI stuff yet), but I'm struggling with the event logs.  I have attached a screen capture of the platform configuration.  It seems to be working to some extent, but I am only seeing info events, not info, warning and error as the confgiuration would imply (I assume the order is, from lowest to highest, info, warning, error).

I would appreceate assistance with this.  I think Hyperic is an excellent product that will meet my needs, but I just need to overcome these issues with the event log.
