I mainly installed Hyperic because of a statement in their FAQ:
"Can HQ be used to detect changes to files and directories? In effect, can I use HQ as an intrusion detection system?
Yes. Some of our customers use HQ's ability to monitor files and directories to enforce change control processes and detect malicious activity. File and directory monitoring are provided as part of the Operating System monitoring features in HQ."
I have been using it for a while now to monitor other things but now have been asked to actually set up alerts on some directories so that we know when files in the directories are modified. I cant find anything that will check all the files in a directory for changes. It looks like the directory monitoring checks only the folder for changes not the files and subdirectories? Can someone help me with the steps to monitor all files and directories in a folder for changes?
Thanks,
