I first reported this problem in this thread:

Since then I decided that the server that was giving me problems had too much software installed that could be causing problems, so I decided to test hyperic over a new installation.
I createde a virtual machine (VMWARE) , installed on it Windows 2000 AS, 7zip 4.65, Firefox 3.5.2, Filezilla Client 3.2.7, Notepad++ 5.4.5, Java 1.6u14, Tomcat 6.0.20 and
finally, Hyperic 4.1.2, complete, using the MSI installer that installs both the server and the agent in the same machine. The computer has absolutely nothing else installed.

I logged in to http://192.168.91.129:7080/Dashboard.do? and got the dreaded:
There are no auto-discovered resources and HQ inventory is empty.
Please install and startup some HQ agents to get started with HQ.
So I reinstalled I installed Hyperic at C:\HypericHQ4.1.2 to avoid whitespace problems, it still failed with the dreaded:
There are no auto-discovered resources and HQ inventory is empty.
Please install and startup some HQ agents to get started with HQ.

But if I install over Windows 2003 or XP it works perfectly.
According to http://support.hyperic.com/display/DOC/HQ+Server+Requirements hyperic only runs on:
* Linux
* Solaris 10 or higher
* Mac OS X (Intel x86)
* Windows 2003 Server
Does this mean I should abandon all hope?
