Hyperic comes with some default monitoring and I'll use Exchange 2010 as an example. When I install the Hyperic Agent on an Exchange 2012 server it identifies that the machine has Exchange 2010 on it and it's role. It also does some quality of service collection for the metrics defined in the metric template for Exchange 2010 and it's role. The Server Type for Exchange 2010 doesn't appear to actually monitor the service state though of the Exchange services. So lets say one of the services fail and I just going to get some type of availability alert and have to go and look to see what service failed or will it identify the service failure. Or should I use the Windows Service platform service type and monitor the individual services that makeup Exchange on each service also? Hopefully I explained that clearly enough.
