Unable to configure Websphere MQ plugin for Hyperic v4.5

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to get hyperic Websphere MQ plug-in (mqseries-plugin.jar) downloaded from hyperic community work on Solaris 10 platform.

The Hyperic Agent is v4.5 and the MQ version installed is v6.0.

When I start the agent, it is auto discovering all the Queue managers however an error is being thrown!

Receiving the following exception from the Agent:

2012-04-11 15:27:25,651 DEBUG [Thread-1] [MQSeriesProductPlugin] classpath: [/opt/mqm/java/lib/com.ibm.mq.jar, /opt/mqm/java/lib/com.ibm.mq.pcf-6.1.jar]2012-04-11 15:28:10,128 INFO  [Thread-1] [SenderThread] Maximum metric batch size set to 500

I'm unable to see the Websphere MQ components in the inventory because of the above error.

I have added the user under which the Agent is running to 'mqm' group and restarted the Agent (going by the '2035' error code)  but still the error persists!

Any suggestions regarding the resolution for the above issue would be much appreciated.

Satish.

Hey guys,

My company did server maintenance this past weekend and my hyperic server happened to be serviced. Monday morning i was greeted with this in the logs. (disregard the date)

Using Sigar from Java on Redhat Enterprise Linux 6 - how?

$

Hi all,

RHEL6 comes with the native sigar library available:

http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHEA-2011-0670.html

This provides the following files:

# rpm -q -l sigar

/usr/lib64/libsigar.so

/usr/share/doc/sigar-1.6.5

/usr/share/doc/sigar-1.6.5/AUTHORS

/usr/share/doc/sigar-1.6.5/ChangeLog

/usr/share/doc/sigar-1.6.5/LICENSE

/usr/share/doc/sigar-1.6.5/NOTICE

/usr/share/doc/sigar-1.6.5/README

So far so good.

We are now trying to use sigar from java on this staging box, and we cannot get our test cases to run at all. we see the following two errors:

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class org.hyperic.sigar.Sigar

java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: org.hyperic.sigar.Sigar.getNativeVersion()Ljava/lang/String;

Unfortunately neither error gives us a clue as to why Sigar is failing, the java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError message seems to be printing a bogus string instead of the actual error, so we remain in the dark.

Reverse engineering the sigar java binding, we find a complex library loading mechanism that attempts to introspect the architecture of the machine and load a custom-named library with the architecture of the machine embedded into it. This mechanism however doesn't seem to contain any mechanism to load a normal, ordinary system library as provided by the operating system as it is in this case.

My question is thus this:

- How do we use the sigar java bindings with the sigar library as shipped by Redhat?

- Is this even possible?

- Has Redhat done some kind of customisation to make this work, and if so is this documented anywhere?

- Has anyone got this to work?

To make things clear, we need to roll out this code on many nodes, we cannot use a custom hacked solution. We either need to discover what we're doing wrong and do it the right way, or if the java bindings can't work with Redhat's system sigar library at all, we will have to maintain a custom version of the sigar library with this bug fixed.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Regards,

Graham

vCenter Hyperic 5.8 vsphere Plugin

Hi, I was testing with the new version of Hyperic 5.8 and I'm not able to find the HQ vCenter or able to configure the vCenter server into Hyperic.

Checking on the release notes it seems that vsphere/vcenter plugin was a community plugin that should be now downloaded from Marketplace but I'm not able to find it.

Anyone know where to find it?

Issue with IBM MQ monitorig Using Hyperic.

Hi,

We are trying to setup IBM MQ monitoring through hyperic and we are facing issues while configuring the same and the error which we are getting is pasted below, can someone please help us to resolve it and make IBM MQ monitoring successful in hyperic.

": Invalid configuration: Error contacting resource: MQJE001: Completion Code '2', Reason '2495'."

Unidirectional set to true but server seems to try to connect to the agent and fails

I am using Hyperic server 5.7.1.

In the agent.properties file, I have set:

agent.setup.unidirectional=yes

The platform comes up in the auto-discovery pane on the HQ dashboard. However in the server logs, I see this error message:

19-02-2015 02:51:41,226 UTC ERROR [aiSendReport-3588669] [org.hyperic.lather.server.LatherServlet@320] error while invoking LatherDispatcher from ip=107.189.81.12, method=aiSendReport: org.hyperic.hq.common.SystemException: org.hyperic.hq.appdef.shared.AIQApprovalException: Error invoking remote method on agent Timeout occurred waiting on agent response.

org.hyperic.hq.common.SystemException: org.hyperic.hq.appdef.shared.AIQApprovalException: Error invoking remote method on agent Timeout occurred waiting on agent response.

Could someone explain why the server is trying to "invoke a method on the agent" under unidirectional mode ?

When I click on Add to Inventory on the auto-discovery pane, I get this error message:

Unable to import platform : org.hyperic.hq.appdef.shared.AIQApprovalException: Error invoking remote method on agent Timeout occurred waiting on agent response.

As soon as I set unidirectional to no, my server can be added to the inventory without any issues.

Thanks in advance for any hints!

Hi,

We are looking to configure the Hyperic HQ to send alerts via SMS when a escalation occurs.

1. Where do we configure the SMS gateway for the same?
2. Are there any free SMS gateways that can be used and if yes how should they be configured?
3. Can a email  be send as a SMS?

Thanks and Regards,

Just upgraded to 5.8.2 - How to learn PTQL to put Dynamic Groups to good use?

$

I've been using Hyperic Enterprise for about 18 months and have gone from 5.0.0 to 5.7.1 to 5.8.2.  With the recent upgrade we got a Management tab with Dynamic Groups and Policies.  To make a useful dynamic group, for example all C: drives on Windows servers, I'm going to need to learn how to write a "RegExp", which I assume is a PTQL (Program Trace Query Language) statement.  I'm familiar with these, but I don't know how to write one from scratch.  Is there a reference somewhere that shows what classes and attributes to use to find "normal English" resources?

Thanks.

If the shared library is identified how do I make it available to the application?

How to receive/show SNMP trap and create alert/notification using them in vFabric Hyperic 5.0

$

We are trying to use Hyperic to monitor our ESB, and have set up two boxes (VMs):
- Box A is the ESB.  It is Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.9 (Tikanga) (Kernel 2.6.18).
- Box B is the Monitoring solution.  It runs MS Windows Server 2008 R2 and have Hyperic HQ Enterprise Server and Agent, both v.5.0 installed on this box.  We have also installed a trap receiver (some free tool) to look into the traffic.

Steps performed:
1. We configured Hyperic using this document: http://pubs.vmware.com/vfabric5/index.jsp?topic=/com.vmware.vfabric.hyperic.4.6/Configuring_Hyperic_as_an_SNMP_Trap_Receiver.html.
2. The Linux box (box A) has been added as a “network device”.
3. The SMNP community string has been verified.
4. snmpTrapReceiver.listenAddress=udp:0.0.0.0/162 has been added in the config file agent.properties.
5. After the setup, we can see that the port 162 is open by java.exe.  We assume that this proves that the Agent should receive SNMP TRAPs.
6. The Trap Receiver has been configured to receive SNMP messages to the port 163.
7. Layer 7 SecureSpan Gateway sent a series of messages, and confirmed that the same number of packages was received by both port 162 on java.exe and port 163 by the Trap Receiver.

Questions:
1. How do we verify that the connection between Hyperic Server and Agent is working properly and Hyperic Server receives the information (SNMP TRAPs) sent from the ESB.
2. How do we present this information on the Hyperic Server Web Console?

Chart question

I've been playing with HQ for the last 12 hours or so, and it seems like a really cool piece of software, very glad you guys decided to make it open source.  I just have one question about the charts-  it seems that some charts have just the little dot to describe the value of the metric, while other times it has a dot inside of a vertical blue line.  It seems clear that the blue line is defining some sort of range, but I can't figure out what.  Is this the baselineing mechanism?  If so- it seems that it should show up on every data point (in time), but it only appears sometimes.  If anyone can shed any light, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

Monitor servers configured for different time zones?

Is their a way to configure Hyperic to know what time zone each server it monitors is in?  We have database servers in 1 location, however some of those servers are set to their respective customer time zones.  The problem being that the Agent and the HQ are not synced up and therefore do not provide statistics.

Thanks,
Scott F.

Alert Notification when Fixed? Only in Enterprise or in Open Source too?

Hello,

I am a user of the Open Source Hyperic System; I have defined my alert conditions for my machines/servers. However, before when I used Nagios it would also alert me when the monitored resource is back/fixed in the email.

Is this possible to achieve in Hyperic OS?

Thank you.

We installed a server on one Windows machine, and installed an agent on another Windows machine.

We encounter "Failed handling new connection" on the agent machine as below.

Can we fix the issue without reinstallation either server or agent?

Could not create deployment...jboss-service.xml

I found where other have had this issue but could not find a resolution.

This is a new install of v4.1.1 on CentOS5.2 32bit. 1GB memory, non ZEN kernel.
uname -a -> Linux utilpc.example.com 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5 #1 SMP Tue Dec 16 12:03:43 EST 2008 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux

File 'jboss-service.xml' has an updated timestamp so the process did touch the file.

Has anyone encountered this and resolved it?

Possible to monitor Amazon SQS ? (simple queue service) ?

Here is a funny one...

Can we monitor an SQS queue?

I think there are just a few things we need to watch:

- New messages/minute
- Age of oldest message
- # of messages in queue

Thoughts?

Thanks!
