Hi,

We have  HQ 4.5.1 installed and monitored almost for one month, found that HQ database with rapid growth, I know it's depends on the scale of devices to monitor, and have enabled "delete Detailed Metric Data Older Than 2 days" and "delete alerts/events/logs old than"...function. Also, we created the scheduled task to delete some unimportant events from hq.eam_event_log. everyday.

Any other suggestions to optimize the HQ database? thks.

Eddy,

error appears in server.log

Failed to lookup OID for BIGIP F5 device

I have setup hyperic and added an f5 device. Under Inventory > Configuration properties it gives the error:

This resource is turned off or has not been configured properly.

The problem is: Invalid configuration: Invalid request: Failed to lookup OID for name=sysHttpStatNumberReqs (last lookup failure=null)

I have added F5-BIGIP-SYSTEM-MIB.txt, F5-BIGIP-GLOBAL-MIB.txt and F5-BIGIP-LOCAL-MIB.txt to /usr/share/snmp/mibs. I then ran export MIBS=ALL

When running snmpwalk -v 2c -c community IP 1.3.6.1.4.1.3375.2.1.1.2.4.7 I get the errors:

Cannot adopt OID in F5-BIGIP-SYSTEM-MIB:

When running snmptranslate sysHttpStatNumberReqs I also get the same errors

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

I have two servers that I am trying to monitor with Hyperic. I had the 3.2.x agent on them working just fine. However, when I try to run the 4.0.2 agent, I get an error message, every time I try running hq-agent.sh.  Any ideas why?

HQ does not sense Alfresco properly - version and status

I installed HQ agent 4.5.3 on Windows 2003 machines running Alfresco/Tomcat. HQ agent reports back that it found Alfresco 2.x, while the actual Alfresco version is 3.2 and it indicates the status as "not available/inactive" whileAlfresco/tomcat is running.

Note: I did not install Alfresco/tomcat as a service. It is started using a batch script.

How do I get Hyperic to report the right version of Alfresco and the correct status

Agent won't restart

Hi,

I have HQ agent 4.5.1 running on a windows server 2003 SP2 with SQL 2005. The agent was running fine until a scheduled reboot of the server left the agent unable to start.

If i start the agent through the Services MMC it shows as running but I can't configure the agent and it does not check in.

If i start the agent from the batch file in the BIN directory, the batch file hangs on "wrapper  | Hyperic HQ Agent started." and the agent seems to start and stop in the background

If the agent is running and I try and configure it I get the following message:

Unable to setup agent: Error sending argument: Unable to connect to  127.0.0.1:2144: Connection refused: connect, retried 20 times, cmd=agent:ping The Agent must be running prior to running setup

I am also getting the following message in the wrapper log:

Hi, I have successfully installed and run HQ on windows server 2008 using the normal %JAVA_HOME%, in order to enable the Webspehere agent I have added %HQ_JAVA_HOME% and used the JRE Websphere is using.  I now receive an error starting the HQ Server service complaining..

Unable to load the Wrapper's native library because none of the following files:
wrapper-windows-x86-64.dll
wrapper.dll
could be located

I cannot find a 64 version of the wrapper dll and I cannot use a different version as there is no license.

Any help would be greatly received.
Many thanks.

Websphere 6.1 Connection Issue - IBM JVM

Hi,

I am fairly new to Hyperic and am currently trialling it for my company.
We have a requirement to monitor Websphere v6.1.11 so I have created a VM image and have installed WS to test.

When the WS instance is configured I get an error message stating the following:

The configuration has not been set for this resource due to : Invalid configuration: Error contacting resource: The WebSphere plugin needs a IBM JVM !!! (agent jvm=Sun Microsystems Inc.)

Can anyone please suggest how to get around this issue? I did see a thread about this which recommended setting a property to show the agent where the IBM jar files are but this didn't help.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks,

Adam

Availability metric definition

$

Hi guys,

I have written a custom plugin similar to the SQL Query Plugin in the Hyperic-4.4 documentation in order to collect metrics from a remote terminal. The template for availability metric collection with SQL query is defined as

"sql:Select Count(*) from metric_table WHERE metric.id=%givenId%:${name}"

On command line deployment of the plugin, this query works fine when the terminal id is up and running and shows 100% availabilty while the plugin goes on and collects all the required metrics in the custom plugin. But in case of the time when terminal id is not up, it still shows 100% availability while plugin throws an error for other metric collections which is ambiguous as the availibility is expected to be 0% in this case.

I tried using a case statement like "Select CASE WHEN COUNT(*)>0 THEN 1 ELSE NULL  END" but it still shows 100% availability for the time when terminal is not responding. In some cases when i got a syntax error for the SQL query at availabilty metric, it showed 0% availablity.

So i was wondering whether anybody has encountered a similar problem or is it a bug in hyperic? Is there anyway in which i can run the SQL query correctly and have availablity showing 0% for the time when terminal is down.

Any help on the topic will be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

MxNotificationPlugin Does it work?

I've created a plugin extending from the spring application plugin... I've deployed the plugin with no errors and I've validated via Jconsole that JXM Notifications are being sent from my application properly. However, I do not see any events show up in Hyperic nor do I see an errors in the logs.

does the MxNotificationPlugin work with hyperic 4.5?

What are these

<!--
          <property name="DEFAULT_LOG_FILE"
value="log/server.log"/>
           -->
          <plugin type="log_track" class="org.hyperic.hq.product.Log4JLogTrackPlugin" />
          <plugin type="log_track" class="org.hyperic.hq.product.jmx.MxNotificationPlugin"/>
          <plugin type="livedata" class="org.hyperic.hq.product.jmx.MxLiveDataPlugin"/>

And exactly how do they work?

I've attached everything you need to run my plug-in you will need to also set to the JVM args...

-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote
-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.port=6969
-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.ssl=false
-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.authenticate=false
-Dpx.managed.application.name="Px Annotation Demo"

Error message when using SQL Query plugin with DB2 Database

Hi,

I am fairly new to Hyperic HQ and have recently installed the application to monitor my DB2 databases. I am getting all the metrics back from the database but cannot get the SQL Query plugin to pull back any data.

I have configured the agent service to run as db2admin and I have copied the db2 jdbc driver files into C:\hyperic\agent-4.5.2\bundles\agent-4.5.2\pdk\lib\jdbc.

I have created a new SQL Query service and given the install path of DB2 as D:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB

I then configure the service with the following details:

jdbcUrl - jdbc:db2://10.26.111.182:50005/MAXDB71
jdbcUser - db2admin
jdbcPassword - ********
jdbcDriver - com.ibm.db2.jcc.DB2Driver
jdbcQuery - SELECT * FROM MAXSESSION

This gives the following error:

The configuration has not been set for this resource due to : Invalid configuration: Error retrieving value: Query failed for Query, while attempting to issue query SELECT * FROM MAXSESSION:DB2 SQL Error: SQLCODE=-204, SQLSTATE=42704, SQLERRMC=DB2ADMIN.MAXSESSION, DRIVER=3.57.82

Can anyone shed any light on this issue?

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Schema corruption on the embedded PostgresSQL database

$

I am getting stack trace errors in places like editing Applications or other locations that used to work just fine.  I also have platforms that sort of appear in one location, but other viewpoints that should also show a platform don't seem to know about the platform.  I get the feeling that the schema holding knowledge about my discovered architecture has loose, dangly pointers.  Some services are attached to platforms, and some are unattached to platforms.  Given that I cannot see the ID or otherwise peruse the object model, I am unable to establish if it is consistent from a primary key/foreign key aspect.

I am on the open-source edition of HQ 4.5.2, running on a Windows 2008R2 server.  I had several platforms and lots of services auto-discovered and configured.  These services includes Tomcat, vCenter, and Oracle databases, all of which require a specific configuration variable to be set before monitoring will start.

One day, my developer told me that I was watching services that were supposed to have been turned off.  So I shut down the services on the target platform (MySQL, JBoss) and then proceeded to delete the services inside of HypericHQ.  This all worked just fine, or at least it executed the Delete request without complaint.

An hour later, I went back into Hyperic and realized that all of my platforms were gone except for the one for the dedicated Hyperic server.  Totally confused and puzzled, I restarted (not reconfigured) the agents on all my platforms and everything was re-discovered.  Past metrics seemed to still be there, but special configuration variables had to be re-entered and custom alerts were totally gone.

Then, I discovered that my VMware vSphere Hosts (ESXi) were missing from the Browse tab of HQ.  I have since run the agent in manual, debug mode just for vcenter, but it refuses to find the ESXi hosts.

vCenter is feeling the brunt of the pain and nothing I do will let it fully heal.  I have had this happen to me once when I was running 4.5.1 and things had gotten so bad I wiped my entire database and reinstalled from scratch.  I can't do that every two months.  Oh, and no backups of the database either since the embedded PostgresSQL doesn't seem to want to let me use the normal Postgres tools like pg_dump.

Is there a way to check the consistency of the database schema?  If so, what about repairs?  A valid repair is to delete inconsistent entries and let them be auto-discovered again, even if I lose configuration variables and alerts if absolutely necessary.  None of the built-in database administration stuff seems to offer any help.

Cannot configure tomcat server instance

For tomcat when I configure the jmx settings in hyperic I get the message below.  When I check via jConsole there is no java.lang.OpenFileDescriptorCount.
How do I fix this, and why does this stop the server from saving the configuration and letting me see what the values are of the stats that do exist?

The configuration has not been set for this resource due to : Invalid configuration: Error retrieving value: Attribute not found [java.lang:type=OperatingSystem:OpenFileDescriptorCount]: javax.management.AttributeNotFoundException: No such attribute: OpenFileDescriptorCount

Agent configuration running in identical VMs on two servers

Identical  virtual machines to host Zimbra servers have been installed on two different servers. An Hyperic agent is running in each VM.
The network configuration of the two VMs are identical, therefore the parameters patform.name and platform.fqdn in the agent configuration have been used to differentiate the two platforms: platform.fqdn=zimbra.machine1.org and platform.fqdn=zimbra.machine2.org.
Both resources are detected by the auto-discovery mechanism (Hyperic version 4.6).
Unfortunately adding the second resource overloads the first resource.

Any help on how to manage this configuration would be appreciated.
