vCenter Hyperic 5.8 vsphere Plugin

$

Hi, I was testing with the new version of Hyperic 5.8 and I'm not able to find the HQ vCenter or able to configure the vCenter server into Hyperic.

Checking on the release notes it seems that vsphere/vcenter plugin was a community plugin that should be now downloaded from Marketplace but I'm not able to find it.

Anyone know where to find it?

Im running Hyperic 5.8.  I'm starting to see this error pop up in the vSphere web client under cluster/manage/hyperic agents.  It seems to be spreading.  I've looked in HQ, but don't see anywhere that an agent password, etc is created.

Any ideas?

Hyperic Alert - Configure E-Mail Alert via API - How to

$

Dear community,

I use Hyperic 4.6.

With the help of HQ API ( Java API), I was able to create Alerts

for the Resources. But I want to make it as an E-Mail Alert.

Say for a Resource Agent , I configure 6 Alerts via API.

Now I have nearly 40 Agents being monitored.

So 40*6=240 Alerts.

How can I configure E-Mail Alerts as well via API ?

I feel that manually mapping 240 Alerts with an Email ID is difficult.

Can you please suggest a way, so that while creating alerts  via API itself, I shall be able to mark the alert with an Email Address, so that

when ever alert gets triggered, marked Email addresses will be notified via Email.

Nagios, Hyperic, and vCops

Good afternoon,

I don't know a lot about the integration between Nagios and Hyperic.  From what I'm reading when you install the Hyperic agent onto a server with Nagios installed it will be able to pull information from what Nagios is monitoring into Hyperic.  From Hyperic you can view quality of service and create alarms based on the Nagios monitoring.  Can this information that has been pulled into Hyperic be viewed in vCOPS?

Hyperic Server is being installed on SLES11 SP3.

PostgreSQL 9.3 is also running on separate instance of SLES11 SP3.

With a fresh install of hyperic server 5.8.3 I received the following output and errors. The database is connecting fine and the installation begins but then it bombs after "Taskdefs loaded". Am I missing something?

Cisco device SNMP Issues

Hello all,

I am attempting to log some info on one of our Cisco firewalls and I am running into some issues. I have followed the instructions on the documentation page: http://support.hyperic.com/display/hypcomm/Cisco+IOS.

I have used SNMP version 1 and was able to add the Cisco device successfully.

But following are my issues please help

1. I can't see any values in hyperic dashboard for cisco devices. It is showing 0 % availability.

2. I also want to monitor ISP bandwidth of cisco firewall  please  some one help me to configure it.

Thanks,

Reg: Doubt in Hyperic User(s) in Open Source Version

$

Hello All,

I use Hyperic 5.8.4 Open Source Version. I am able to create users. I noted certain events and want some more clarity on the same.

  1. I created User 1 and User2. I logged in as User1 and I was able to disable / delete User2.
  2. I configured Agent with Credentials of User1 and I was able to approve, when User2 logs into Hyperic Portal
  3. I configured Agent with Credentials of User1 and I was able to approve when User2 logs into Hyperic Portal. In this case that particular System is showed under the User who approve the Resources.(in this case User2)
  4. Any User of Hyperic is able to see resources approved by other User
  5. Even after deleting User2, Agent System configured with User2's Credentials was able to report to the Hyperic Server.

I wish to know, What functionality is being implemented in Open Source Version of Hyperic w.r.t Users and Roles.

My Doubts is say I have 5 Users in Hyperic. and each Users have  5 VM's under monitoring. One User should not see VM's of Other User.

Other than the respective VM's of that particular User , no User shall approve / view other VM.Again One User should not control other User.

Is it possible in Hyperic ?

From certain documentation, I understood that Role is available in Enterprise only. Please correct me If I am wrong.

What Ever I experienced and mentioned here is what available in Hyperic or there is a bug due to my Misconfiguration?

Also I have an Application built with GRAILS and I want to enable Sign on with Hyperic.

Say If I log into the Grails Application as a User, I should be able to login to Hyperic without password.

How Shall I accomplish this?

Any Help from the community would be greatly appreciated ...

thanks,

SREE

vRealize Hyperic agents that use Java 6 no longer send metrics to the vRealize Hyperic server.5.8.4

Hi,

When the POODLE security vulnerability was addressed for vRealize Hyperic, the handshake operation, which is necessary to determine which SSL protocol is in use, was removed from the vRealize Hyperic server. As a result, vRealize Hyperic agents that use Java 6 no longer send metrics to the vRealize Hyperic server.

Workaround: It is necessary to restore the handshake operation by updating the server.xml file.

    1. Navigate to [server name]/hq-engine/hq-server/conf and openserver.xml in a text editor.
    2. Locate the protocols= attribute and add SSLv2Hello to the list of protocols. For example, protocols="SSLv2Hello,TLSv1.2,TLSv1.1,TLSv1".
    3. Save the file.
    4. Restart the vRealize Hyperic server.

Metrics start to appear in the user interface.

Thanks,

Yaron

Has anyone used the Nagios plugin with Hyperic 5.8?

I know vmware removed it from 5.8 but it's a pretty useful plugin.

I extracted the jar from hyperic 5.7 and installed it in 5.8 however i'm only getting availability for the nagios server.

It's not pulling my nagios checks even thought it sees the cfg file.

Agent permissions problem

$

I installed a server and agent on the same host, then shut down the agent and restarted the server a number of times (I have another agent running on another host).  I just tried to restart the agent, but get the following in the agent.log:

2006-08-22 10:57:59,975 WARN  [ConfigPopulateThread] Unable to get entities for agent: Unable to invoke 'measurementGetConfigs':  Permission denied
2006-08-22 10:57:59,975 WARN  [ConfigPopulateThread] Sleeping for 10 seconds to fetch entities

2006-08-22 10:58:16,633 ERROR [AutoinventoryCommandsServer] Unable to send autoinventory platform data to server, sleeping for 22 secs before retrying.  Error: Unable to invoke 'aiSendReport':  Permission denied

Needless to say, the server is not discovering any resources from this agent.

I checked all the subdirectories under the hyperic home directory, and all files are owned by hyperic:hyperic.  The agent and server are both running as hyperic.

From all appearances, the agent is listening on port 7443 (the TCP port is open, I tried it).  When I try to add a platform for the agent running on the same host as the server, the drop-down menu for "Agent Connection" only lets me specify port 2144, which is clearly wrong.  I get the following in the server log at that point:

2006-08-22 11:12:36,071 INFO  [org.hyperic.hq.autoinventory.server.session.AIScheduleManagerEJBImpl] Scheduling job for immediate execution: JobDetail 'autoinventory.aiScan-10052-1-config-15905173-1156270356071':  jobClass: 'org.hyperic.hq.autoinventory.server.session.AIScanJob isStateful: false isVolatile: true isDurable: false requestsRecovers: false

     at org.quartz.core.JobRunShell.run(JobRunShell.java:195)
     at org.quartz.simpl.SimpleThreadPool$WorkerThread.run(SimpleThreadPool.java:520)

The server also can't autodiscover the client, apparently.  I get these messages in the server log at regular intervals:

2006-08-22 11:18:20,225 WARN  [org.hyperic.hq.bizapp.server.session.LatherDispatcher] Unauthorized agent from 10.1.0.123 denied

I'm a bit at a loss here.  Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks.

Monitor applications clustered using Microsoft Cluster Server Technology

Hi,
If I have a cluster being managed using Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS) how do I monitor the cluster? Does Hyperic provide any support for MSCS clustered environment or do I need to install agents on each of the machines in the cluster individually and then define my own group/cluster to monitor them? I will appreciated any help in this regard.

Initial setup error

Hi to all in the forums!

I'm a new user who's also new to Hyperic. I'm trying to install 4.6 server open source in my environment (Windows 2008 R2 server), and the first part of the installation went fine.
When I try to run the second part, hq-server.bat install, I receive the following error: "Java Service Wrapper Community Edition 3.5.6 has stopped working. Windows can check online for a solution to the problem." and I'm then kicked out of the installation.
Has anyone seen the above error before, or can someone point me in the right direction to try to resolve it?
Thanks in advance for reading this post.

network bandwidth utilization

$

Hi, I am using the Java APIs of Sigar to get CPU load and free memory (as percentages) and there are also plenty of good examples on the provided sources demonstrating that kind of functionality. However, how could I use Sigar to obtain a similar percentage for the network utilization? There doesn't seem to be an example demonstrating how one could get that information. I understand that the metric is not very well defined but I was thinking something along the lines of sum of incoming and outgoing traffic as a percentage of the Network Interface Card's bandwidth. Windows 7 at least provides such a metric in Task Manager, tab "Networking" and I was trying to get something similar using Java and Sigar.

Hi,

I am using hyperic 4.6.6 for monitoring different applications.

I have to monitor http and ajp threads of jboss .But here jboss are auto detected by hyperic but not relegated jboss web servers. So I did manual configuration for them (jmxUrl & process query) then ther are detected.and hyperic started monitoring them but here also jboss web services are not detected showing error like ---"javax.management.InstanceNotFoundException: jboss.web:type=ThreadPool,name=ajp-192.168.4.171-18909 is not registered."

Can any buddy tell me how to solve this problem.....Please....?

Hyperic HQ 5.7.1 - Agent Fails to Start

Hyperic HQ 5.7.1

OS: IBM AIX 6.1, Level 6100-09

--------------------------------

We have seen this problem with Hyperic HQ Agent 4.6.6 and now 5.7.1 after upgrading. When starting the Hyperic HQ Agent using /bin/, the following error occurs:

--== [user][!]==-->./hq-agent.sh start

-n Starting HQ Agent

-n.

-n.

-n.

Remove stale pid file:/opt/hyperic-hq-agent-5.7.1/wrapper/sbin/../../wrapper/hq-agent.pid

WARNING: HQ Agent may have failed to start

------------------------------

No entries are written into either the wrapper.log or agent.log. I have noticed that when increasing the timeout for the wrapper startup and then restarting the agent, I can tell that a hq-agent.pid is created with a PID number inside the file, but the PID itself does is not shown as a currently running process (this should be obvious since the agent does not start at all).

When enabling debug logging through the bundles/agent-5.7.1/conf/wrapper.conf, there is still no information sent to the logs upon start up. When attempting to run the service wrapper individually (to confirm the wrapper file can be read), I get the following:

--== You are in /opt/hyperic-hq-agent-5.7.1/wrapper/sbin ==--

--== [user][!]==--> ./wrapper-aix-ppc-32

Segmentation fault (core dumped)

I believe that the issue is surrounding the wrapper, but I am not that experienced within the Hyperic programming to determine what should be done next. If there is any input out there, respond to this post.  Thanks

Want to use Hyperic to monitor applications hosted by vCloud Director

$

Hello,

I'm extremely new to Hyperic so please be gentle. I rebuilt our development network using vCloud Director and we created some routed Organizations (a couple for my clients and one management org for my catalogs). All orgs have vShield firewalls to prevent traffic flow to each other, and the external network that all the orgs sit on also has a firewall to prevent traffic flow to my management network (for security reasons) which I plan to put Hyperic on. My understanding (so far) about Hyperic is that it is a client based solution meaning the servers you want Hyperic to monitor will require an agent to be installed. Does this mean the server I'm trying to monitor needs to be able to "ping" the Hyperic server, or does Hyperic work much like how vCenter/vCOPS works with VMTools?

If Hyperic needs to "ping" the agents then my options are:

- install hyperic in each org and management them individually (extra overhead work)

- install hyperic in my admin org and open the vShield firewalls to allow Hyperic to communicate with all agents in all orgs (potential security issue, but centralized Hyperic view)

I'm hoping I don't have to do either of these options but I'm not really sure...some guidance would be great.
